About Mrs. Stage
Hello! My name is Brittany Stage, and I am currently in my thirteenth year of teaching at Washington Community High School. This will be my seventeenth year as a Washington Panther, though, since I also attended and graduated from WCHS (2002-2006). Each year, I recognize more and more how truly privileged I am to be able to teach within the community that helped me on my journey to becoming the teacher and person I am today.
Post-Secondary Education: I received my secondary English teaching certification in January of 2010 after graduating from Illinois State University in December of 2009 with a summa cum laude distinction. While at ISU, I was also recognized as a Bone Scholar nominee, an honors program scholar, and for achieving departmental honors in English. I am certified to teach grades 6-12.
Experience: Over the last few years, I have worked primarily with freshmen, and I am looking forward to continuing to work with them again this year. I am also looking forward to working with this year's sophomores.
Activities: In addition to my regular teaching duties, I also work each year with Mrs. Lisa England to plan the annual Freshman Kick-Off event.
Family and Interests: My husband, Scott, who also graduated from WCHS (2003), and I moved back to Washington in 2013 with our now 12-year-old daughter, Haylee, who is in the 7th grade at CIS. We also have a 6-year-old daughter, Emily, who is in 1st grade at CPS. When I'm not teaching, my favorite thing to do is to spend time with my family. I also enjoy reading, cooking, and taking photos.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that it is my responsibility to provide my students with the knowledge and skills that they will need to succeed beyond high school, whether they choose to immediately enter the work force or to pursue higher education. I strive daily, through the use of a variety of educational strategies, to meet the diverse needs and interests of my students so that they can become competent citizens of the communities in which they will one day work and live. I teach knowledgeably, with passion and creativity, and I consider it a privilege to be able to work with students as they work toward achieving their goals and recognizing their own potential and passions.
